Move For Madagascar - London to Madagascar in 40 days
Africa and Beaches Department - Audley Travel
My Story
Why?
Haphazard weather conditions have thrown Madagascar's food supply into disarray. Areas of Madagascar have not experienced rain in over 4 years resulting in the worst droughts Madagascar have ever seen. In turn, this has resulted in what the UN describes as the 'world's first climate-change famine' with more than 1.1 million people experiencing catastrophic levels of hunger and more than 500,000 children under the age of 5 are at risk of being acutely malnourished. Many families are unable to relocate, and in the last 8 months they have been left with no other choice than to survive off insects and cactus leaves.
Due to political unrest, the country has experienced very little help from the government and foreign aid. Therefore, we would like to ask for your help, by raising donations for SEED Charity's Emergency Food Distribution Project. Although not a relief agency, with over 20 years experience working on a range of sustainable development projects, SEED has existing relationships with some of the worst affected communities and government clinics, which has provided a route for food distribution. This catastrophe has also affected many individuals who we work closely with at Audley Travel, so we must do all we can to help.
How?
We hope to collectively cover the distance between London and Madagascar in 40 days (5620 miles, 9045 kilometres) by walking, running, cycling, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, skating and roller-blading.
When?
Starting Monday 20th September and ending on Friday 29th October.
